AMD Ryzen 7040H series is only available in China

AMD’s Ryzen 7040 series mobile processors, suffixed with H and HS, ostensibly possess similar specifications, causing a degree of confusion. AMD has now clearly denoted on its official website that the Ryzen 7040H series are products specifically supplied to mainland China, while the Ryzen 7040HS series are globally supplied, inclusive of domestic availability.

However, an exception exists: the top-tier Ryzen 9 7940HS does not appear in the product list on the domestic official website. The designated supply regions marked on the product page include North America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific, and Latin America. Mainland China is not incorporated.

During the Ryzen 5000/6000 era, AMD did distinguish between the H and HS series. Their Thermal Design Power (TDP) was not identical; the former stood at 45W and the latter at 35W, aligning respectively with Intel’s H45 and H35 series. The only divergence now is that Intel has renamed H35 to P28, which has resulted in a greater performance disparity.

Nevertheless, the differences between the AMD Ryzen 7000H and HS are not as evident this time around. Their specifications are fundamentally identical. However, on some of the already launched machines, the maximum power consumption of the Ryzen 7 7840H has been marked as 65W, exceeding the official 35-54W TDP. Presumably, other H series processors would reference this parameter. Moreover, a considerable number of these do not come equipped with discrete graphics, indicating that the Radeon 780M integrated graphics could garner a higher power, thereby providing superior gaming performance.
