AMD FidelityFX SDK 1.0 released: add 3 new technologies

AMD has announced that the AMD FidelityFX Software Development Kit (SDK) is now available for download. This middleware is a new, easy-to-integrate solution for AMD FidelityFX graphics, simplifying the process for developers seeking to incorporate technologies, including AMD FidelityFX, into their games, thereby reducing the complexities and challenges associated with porting.

AMD has asserted that over the past few years since the launch of AMD FidelityFX technology, it has established itself as one of the most frequently employed and trusted technology partners within the industry. This open-source technology can currently be found in over 250 games, including several large-scale productions. As AMD FidelityFX technology continues to evolve and find increasingly widespread applications, AMD has endeavored to enhance the user experience for developers through a multiplicity of approaches, with the AMD FidelityFX SDK exemplifying their objective of simplicity, structure, and consistency.

As early as the GDC 2023 conference in March this year, AMD announced its intention to release the first FidelityFX SDK, which includes added technologies such as FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) 3.0. Regrettably, the FSR 3.0 technology was not launched within the promised timeframe, but the software development kit has already arrived.

Game developers can download the FidelityFX suite, with AMD also providing a wealth of documentation for use as development manuals. These manuals include details of how each technology can enhance graphics and visual effects, with specific use cases and guides to enable rapid understanding by game developers. AMD has incorporated three new technologies into the FidelityFX SDK, including:

  • AMD FidelityFX Blur 1.0 – a highly optimized function library capable of executing common blur operations such as Gaussian blur and radial blur.
  • AMD FidelityFX Depth of Field 1.0 – capable of realizing high-quality depth of field filters, complete with blurring effects.
  • AMD FidelityFX Lens 1.0 – provides an optimized lens effect library, including chromatic aberration, film grain, and vignette effects.

The existing FidelityFX technologies include ten features, namely:

  • AMD FidelityFX CACAO (AMD FidelityFX Ambient Occlusion) 1.3
  • AMD FidelityFX CAS 1.1
  • AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR)
  • AMD FidelityFX LPM (AMD FidelityFX HDR Mapper) 1.3
  • AMD FidelityFX Parallel Sort 1.2
  • AMD FidelityFX SPD (AMD FidelityFX Downsampler) 2.1
  • AMD FidelityFX SSSR (AMD FidelityFX Screen Space Reflections) 1.4 and AMD FidelityFX Denoiser 1.2
  • AMD FidelityFX Variable Shading 1.1
  • AMD FidelityFX Hybrid Reflections 1.1
  • AMD FidelityFX Hybrid Shadows 1.1
