U.S. Navy bans TikTok due to cyber security threat
The U.S. Navy has reportedly banned the TikTok app from working on mobile devices issued by the government due to concerns over cybersecurity. Reuters reported on Friday that the U.S. Navy said in a military personnel announcement posted on a Facebook page earlier this week that those who had not removed the short video application would be denied access by the Navy’s internal network.
Neither the Navy nor TikTok immediately responded to a request for comment, but a Pentagon spokesman said in an interview with Reuters that the ban was part of an “address existing and emerging threats” initiative.
A Navy spokesman said the announcement “confirmed the potential risks associated with using the TikTok app and instructed employees to take appropriate measures to protect their personal information.” However, the Navy will not disclose details of what dangers TikTok poses.
