Sony launched a new PlayStation 5 digital version in Japan, 300 grams of weight reduced

Each generation of the Sony PlayStation game console will release an improved version after it is released for a period of time. Process improvements in core components like CPU/GPU will generally bring new appearances, but if only some minor adjustments, such as changes in functions, interfaces, or individual components, there will be basically no major changes in appearance.

According to PSU reports, Sony has launched a revised version of the PlayStation 5 digital version in Japan. The model of the new version is CFI-1100B. After comparing Sony’s official manual and quick start guide, compared with the old version of CFI-1000B, the weight of CFI-1100B is 300 grams lighter, from 3.9 kg to 3.6 kg.

It is not yet clear what caused the weight reduction of the new PlayStation 5 digital version, it may be some structural changes. In the old version, its cooling system is relatively large, so Sony may choose to change in this regard. In addition, there is a new vertical stand. The thumbscrew allows users to fasten it by hand without using a screwdriver or coin, making it more convenient.

At present, Japan’s major electronic retail chains, such as Nojima and GEO, have already appeared in this new PlayStation 5 digital version. According to the information on the GEO page list, the release date of the new PlayStation 5 digital version is July 20, 2021, and will go on sale at the end of July. In fact, all retailers in Japan currently do not have stocks of the PlayStation 5 digital version. Since its release in November last year, the PlayStation 5 digital version/CD-ROM version has been in short supply worldwide.
