SK hynix’s LPDDR5T has completed performance verification for application with MediaTek’s next-generation mobile APs

SK Hynix has announced that its LPDDR5T (Low Power Double Data Rate 5 Turbo) has completed performance validation on MediaTek’s next-generation Dimensity flagship mobile platform, achieving a speed of up to 9.6 Gbps, making it the world’s fastest mobile DRAM.

Earlier this year, SK Hynix launched LPDDR5T, an embodiment of both high speed and low power consumption. It operates within the ultra-low voltage range of 1.01V to 1.12V as set by JEDEC, and is also integrated with the High-K Metal Gate (HKMG) process. The plan is to manufacture it using the 1αnm process to realize optimal performance. Compared to its predecessor, the LPDDR5X memory, the LPDDR5T’s speed has been augmented by 13%, reaching 9.6 Gbps. To emphasize its high-speed characteristics, the letter “T” was appended to the specification name as a suffix.

According to SK Hynix, as early as February this year, samples of LPDDR5T were provided to MediaTek for testing. Based on the details provided, it is likely associated with the Dimensity 9300 mobile platform, expected to be released within the year. SK Hynix has previously revealed plans to offer 16GB LPDDR5T samples to customers, with a data processing speed of 77GB/s.

SK Hynix believes that before the next generation LPDDR6 is unveiled, the LPDDR5T memory, with its significant technological advantage, can dominate the market. It is capable of meeting the growing demands for high speed, high capacity, and low power consumption, essential for all configurations of high-performance storage. The application of LPDDR5T memory is not confined to smartphones but can extend to artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and augmented/virtual reality (AR/VR).
