Raspberry Pi 5 will not arrive next year
Affected by the shortage of chip production capacity and supply chain in recent years, many new products of technology companies have postponed their launch plans, including the next-generation products of the single-chip computing board Raspberry Pi. Although their Raspberry Pi 4 has been out for more than three years, Raspberry officials have recently confirmed that the Raspberry Pi 5 will not arrive next year.
In a recent interview with YouTuber Explaining Computers, Eben Upton, CEO of Raspberry Pi, said that 2023 will be the year when they resume product supply, so there will be no release of a new generation of products. Due to the continued difficulty in the supply of spare parts in the past year, the shipments of Raspberry’s main products could not meet the market demand, and the price was once raised, which violated the original intention of starting with cheap SBC.
According to Raspberry Pi’s forecast, by the first half of next year, the supply of all products before the epidemic can be restored, but if the Raspberry Pi 5 is released during this period, it is likely to affect the production of other products, so the next-generation Raspberry Pi will not be released until the second half of 2023 to 2024 when the supply chain situation becomes clear.
