Ransomware hits New Orleans to cause power and network outages
New Orleans, a seaport city in southern Louisiana, is currently facing a cyberattack. At a recent news conference held by officials in New Orleans, the nature of the cyberattack was confirmed as a ransomware attack. According to local media reports, to ensure employees shut down their computers as quickly as possible, officials used the city hall’s public speaker system to alert employees to cyber attacks.
This is the third ransomware incident reported in Louisiana. In August of this year, three school districts were attacked by ransomware, prompting the Louisiana Governor to declare the state into a state of emergency, the first state of emergency in the state’s history to be caused by a cyber attack instead of a natural disaster.
A second incident occurred last month, and a second ransomware attack encrypted data on the Louisiana Government IT network. A few weeks after the attack, some state agencies still have difficulty obtaining state data, and these issues are not expected to be resolved by the end of the year.
Facing the increasingly severe global network security situation, both government and enterprise organizations and ordinary individuals should attach importance to network security construction and improve network security protection skills. You know, cybersecurity threats are everywhere.
