Microsoft’s latest patent hints that Surface Duo/Neo will use multispectral technology

Microsoft is currently developing a “test depth + multispectral” camera, which may be used in future Surface products including Surface Duo/Neo. Microsoft’s multispectral camera is superior to Apple’s original deep-sensing camera in long-range photography and several other aspects.

We recently discovered a patent filed and issued by Microsoft in the second half of this year. The patent name is “OBJECT RECOGNITION USING DEPTH AND MULTI-SPECTRAL CAMERA“. Because this patent is relatively new, many people think that Surface Duo/Neo maybe Will carry this technology. However, we are not sure if Microsoft will definitely adopt this technology on the two top dual-screen devices they will release in the future because they can also choose the popular 2D facial recognition camera to replace the features brought by the technology.

The patent specifically discusses camera technology for outputting “test depth and multispectral” images. Each pixel in the image will carry a “test depth value” and “spectral value”. It can use object recognition technology combined with “deep test depth and multispectral” images to understand the structure of an object and output the results.
