New Asus W790 Pro workstation motherboard pictured
Previously, Intel announced the release time of the Sapphire Rapids HEDT/workstation processor and the corresponding Fishhawk Falls platform, which is February 15, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. Pacific Standard Time, and will bring Xeon W-3400 series and Xeon W-2400 series processors and W790 chipset.
Although there is less than a day before the press conference, ASUS has released a preview of the new Pro series workstation motherboard, which is the W790 motherboard.
The new motherboard supports the LGA-4677 socket, provides 8 DDR5 memory slots, can support four-channel or eight-channel memory, and has seven PCIe 5.0 slots. There are also 10 SATA III ports, a USB 3.2 Gen 2 socket for the front panel, and multiple PCIe 5.0 M.2 slots. There is also an auxiliary 6Pin connector on the motherboard that can provide additional power to the PCIe lanes once an expansion card is installed. The Asus W790 Pro workstation motherboard uses some bulky cooling modules on top of the VRM, there is a power on/off and a reset button, and the motherboard seems to have an overclocking feature.
The Xeon W-3400 series is equipped with up to 56 cores, supports up to 112 PCIe channels and eight-channel DDR5-4400/4800 memory, and supports up to 4TB of memory. The Xeon WX-2400 series is equipped with up to 24 cores, supports up to 64 PCIe channels and four-channel DDR5-4400/4800 memory, and supports up to 2TB of memory. In addition, the models with the “X” suffix support overclocking, which can be understood as the successor of the Core-X model.
According to previous reports, the time to market for the Xeon W-3400 series and Xeon W-2400 series processors is also different. Xeon W-2400 series processors and W790 motherboards will be available for pre-sale from March 8th to 22nd, 2023. The pre-sale period for the Xeon W-3400 series processors is from April 12 to 26, 2023.
