Microsoft establishes a 10-year partnership with cloud gaming service provider Boosteroid
Following Microsoft’s announcement of a decade-long game supply collaboration agreement with Nintendo and NVIDIA, the tech giant has recently established a similar 10-year partnership with cloud gaming service provider Boosteroid. This collaboration will fairly offer Xbox platform games and Activision Blizzard creations to Boosteroid, allowing more players to access Activision Blizzard’s gaming portfolio.
Microsoft’s approach is, of course, aimed at securing approval from regulatory authorities worldwide for its recent $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard. However, Sony remains concerned that once Activision Blizzard is officially acquired by Microsoft, the gaming experience on different platforms may be further diminished, allowing the Xbox version to boast a superior playing experience and thus convincing more players to join the Xbox platform.
Microsoft maintains that discontinuing the Call of Duty franchise would not be economically viable, so it is unlikely to be exclusive to the Xbox platform. On the other hand, the market believes that Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard is primarily intended to break into the mobile gaming market.
The European Union is expected to express its final opinion on Microsoft’s transaction by April 25th, with the UK’s Competition and Markets Authority announcing its decision shortly after. In the meantime, Microsoft emphasizes that acquiring Activision Blizzard will stimulate growth in the gaming market and benefit the development of more games. Furthermore, the company assures that it will continue to offer games on competitor platforms such as Nintendo and stresses that relying solely on its gaming platform for distribution will not maximize profits.
Regarding the acquisition of Activision Blizzard, Microsoft has also stated that it will benefit the development of metaverse applications within the company, including enhancing virtual visual applications through gaming technology and enriching metaverse interactivity through the gaming content.
