Microsoft adds Dolby Vision gaming test for Xbox Series X/S
Microsoft’s next-generation console Xbox Series X/S will soon support the opening of Dolby Vision in the game. Related tests have been launched with the Xbox Insiders program this week. This also makes Xbox Series X/S the first game console to join Dolby Vision.
After adding Dolby Vision, Xbox Series X/S players will be able to enjoy a significant visual enhancement of the game screen. As a kind of HDR, Dolby Vision can provide brighter highlight areas and darker shadows for games, improve contrast, and display more details on the screen. According to Dolby’s official statement, the Dolby Vision added to the console this time is automatically set, and players do not need to adjust any brightness settings on the display device. The related Dolby Vision test of Xbox Series X/S will be launched in Xbox Insider Alpha within this week. Dolby will collect player opinions during the testing phase to prepare for the final launch.
If players want to participate in the test, in addition to joining the Xbox Insider Alpha program, they also need to have a monitor or TV that supports Dolby Vision, and they need to update the firmware to the latest version.
Dolby also stated that not all current electronic display devices that support Dolby Vision can definitely support Dolby Vision of Xbox Series X/S. For example, LG’s CX and C1 series OLED TVs do not currently support them. They need to update the firmware once to support this feature.
After connecting to a supported display device, Xbox Series X/S will get more accurate HDR mapping. Dolby stated that they and Microsoft are working closely with TV manufacturers to ensure that the host Dolby Vision can be activated on as many TVs as possible.
