MediaTek released the new 8K smart TV chip Pentonic 2000
MediaTek announced that it has launched a new 8K flagship smart TV chip Pentonic 2000, which brings together the flagship features that consumers expect today. This chip supports streaming video in AV1 encoding format and is the first to support H.266 video decoding. It also adapts to global TV broadcast standards including ATSC 3.0, with leading technology and wide applicability.
Pentonic 2000 is manufactured using TSMC’s 7nm process and has excellent performance and power consumption. This chip integrates an 8K 120Hz motion compensation engine (MEMC). In addition to supporting an 8K@120Hz display, it can also be adapted to a 144Hz refresh rate to meet the needs of a new generation of game consoles and gaming PCs. Pentonic 2000 is also equipped with a powerful AI processor MediaTek APU, which supports MEMC, AVS3 decoding, VVC (H.266) decoding, and picture-in-picture technology. In addition, you can use 8K AI-SR super-resolution technology to upgrade low-resolution content to the native resolution of the display, and enhance the image quality in real-time.
Since 8K displays generally have a large size, coupled with ultra-high resolution, many users want to display different content on one display. Through MediaTek Intelligent View technology, MediaTek enables Pentonic 2000 to support Picture-in-Picture (PiP) or picture-by-picture (PbP) screens. It satisfies the simultaneous input of multiple different video sources, watching streaming videos and performing related application operations. In addition, MediaTek Intelligent View technology also supports seamless video display of multiple split screens. When the size or display layout of the split-screen window is changed, each split-screen can be provided with matching picture quality in real-time to enhance the user experience.
Pentonic 2000 supports high-speed memory and UFS 3.1 storage. By connecting to MediaTek’s Wi-Fi 6E or 5G network, it can provide a high-speed, stable, and low-latency connection for 8K streaming video playback. In addition, Pentonic 2000 also supports Dolby’s new image and audio technology, with the help of Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos technology, it can provide users with a cinema-level audiovisual experience.
Smart TVs equipped with Pentonic 2000 are expected to be launched in 2022, and MediaTek hopes to further promote innovation in the smart TV market.
