MediaTek releases Dimensity 9000 SoC

MediaTek announced the launch of a new generation of flagship SoC, called Dimensity 9000. This is not only the first SoC with ARMv9 architecture but also the first SoC that supports 7500 MT/s LPDDR5X memory. Although it is not the fastest 8533 MT/s in the JEDEC specification, it is 17% faster than the previous LPDDR5-6400.

MediaTek Dimensity 9000 is manufactured using TSMC’s 4nm process and uses a 1+3+4 triple-cluster architecture in the CPU part, including one large core (Cortex-X2@3.05 GHz), three large cores (Cortex-A710@2.85 GHz), and four small cores (Cortex-A510@1.8 GHz). The GPU is Mali-G710 MC10 with ten cores and supports Vulkan API ray tracing technology. Arm said that the GPU has a 20% performance improvement over the previous Mali-G78. Given that Arm only launched the ARMv9 architecture at the end of May this year, it only took a few months to launch related products. Obviously, MediaTek worked overtime during this period of time.

In addition, Dimensity 9000 supports a 320 million pixels single camera, supports three-channel 18bit HDR video recording and triple exposure, and supports 8K AV1 video playback. Dimensity 9000 also supports 3CC carrier aggregation, the download speed of the 5G network reaches 7 Gbps, and R16 technology also makes its upload speed three times faster. Due to the UltraSave 2.0 technology, the power consumption during 5G network connection can be reduced by 32%, and the power consumption during upload and download can be reduced by 27%. This time Dimensity 9000 also supports Wi-Fi 6E and 160MHz bandwidth, the first Bluetooth 5.3, supports dual-frequency GPS and Beidou III-B1C GNSS. It is a pity that Dimensity 9000 does not support millimeter waves, it is still Sub 6GHz, and MediaTek said that the chip launched next year will provide support.

MediaTek did not disclose which new smartphones will use this SoC, and it is expected that the first batch of devices equipped with Dimensity 9000 will be launched in the first quarter of 2022. It is understood that manufacturers including Xiaomi, Redmi, OPPO, VIVO, and realme will have related products.
