Intel will no longer develop another NUC generation

Since the installation of Pat Gelsinger as Intel’s CEO, he has divested a multitude of non-core businesses in a bid to curb expenditure, including the widely renowned Optane business. Of late, rumors of Intel potentially ceasing the NUC (Next Unit of Computing) operations have been circulating in the market, with ServeTheHome reporting that internal meetings were convened with plans to halt investment into the NUC division.

HardwareLuxx has received an official statement from Intel confirming that there will be no further direct investment into the NUC division, which has been responsible for an extensive array of products including mini PCs and public notebooks among others. For the everyday consumer, these items are primarily associated with small-scale PC systems.

“We have decided to stop direct investment in the Next Unit of Compute (NUC) Business and pivot our strategy to enable our ecosystem partners to continue NUC innovation and growth. This decision will not impact the remainder of Intel’s Client Computing Group (CCG) or Network and Edge Computing (NEX) businesses. Furthermore, we are working with our partners and customers to ensure a smooth transition and fulfillment of all our current commitments – including ongoing support for NUC products currently in market.”

Intel‘s NUC products are quintessential barebone systems, meaning they are not equipped with components like memory and storage. Users can customize their PCs by adding their preferred components, catering to specific needs. Intel’s most recent launch is the NUC 13 series, which includes the NUC 13 “Bravo Canyon”, NUC 13 PRO “Arena Canyon”, and NUC 13 Extreme “Raptor Canyon”.
