Intel confirmed on its earnings call in the fourth quarter of 2022 that Meteor Lake will launch in the second half of this year. Meteor Lake is an important milestone for Intel for two reasons. One is the first processor using the Intel 4 process; the other is the first processor with a modular design. There will be four different modules, namely the computing module, SOC module, I/O module, and GPU module, which can be stacked with modules of different process nodes, and then interconnected using EMIB technology and Foveros packaging technology.
Recently, Twitter user @OneRaichu shared the latest information about Meteor Lake, saying that the source of the news came from a reliable insider, saying that Intel Meteor Lake’s target is to improve energy efficiency, which will greatly improve performance and efficiency, and the performance per watt is 50% higher than that of Raptor Lake. At the same time, Intel’s GPU module configured for Meteor Lake has 128 EUs, with a clock of more than 2GHz, and its performance will be twice that of the existing iGPU (96 EUs).
It is understood that the GPU module of Meteor Lake is neither iGPU nor dGPU, but is called tGPU (Tiled GPU). It adopts the new Xe-HPG architecture, which will have higher performance under the same power consumption, and has enhanced support for DirectX 12 Ultimate and XeSS.
Meteor Lake-S uses the second-generation hybrid architecture technology, P-Core will enable the Redwood Cove architecture to replace the current Golden Cove architecture, and E-Core will switch to the Crestmont architecture to replace the Gracemont architecture. It was previously reported that
Intel may cancel the desktop version of Meteor Lake, which is the Meteor Lake-S with LGA 1851 socket and only provide products for mobile platforms.
