Corsair announces acquisition of Drop

Corsair, an American firm, has announced an agreement concerning the acquisition of select assets from Drop, primarily involving the business of customized keyboards and desktop accessories. Recognized as a peripheral developer, Drop’s flagship products are customizable mechanical keyboards and associated accessories, renowned amongst DIY enthusiasts and supported by a thriving community of several million members. Corsair has remained reticent on all the particulars of the transaction, such as financial terms.

Established in 2011, initially under the moniker Massdrop, Drop specializes in the development and sale of peripherals and enthusiast product suites. The majority of its enterprise originated from customized keyboards, keycaps, switches, and desktop accessories, spawning a myriad of iconic, signature products and offering a high degree of personalization. Drop has even obtained official licensing from franchises such as “The Lord of the Rings” and Marvel’s “Infinity Saga,” leading to the release of theme-specific keycaps. The Drop community regularly holds votes on fresh color schemes and concepts, continually supplying innovative designs.

Andy Paul, the founder, and CEO of Corsair, expressed: “Personalized Keyboards that can be modified by the consumer is one of the fastest growing trends in the gaming peripheral space.   Drop has proven to be one of the leaders in this space and with Corsair’s global footprint, we expect to significantly grow the Drop brand worldwide. We are also excited to be able to offer specialized Corsair and Elgato products to the enthusiast community that Drop is engaged with.

It has been understood that Drop will exist as an independent brand under the Corsair umbrella, with existing warranties and services continuing to be directly managed and addressed by the Drop team.
