Co-founder Sergey Brin returns to Google, the company will invest more resources in the development of AI technology

Following his transition of managerial control to Sundar Pichai in late 2019, Sergey Brin, co-founder of Google alongside Larry Page, has inconspicuously returned to Google after years of investing in burgeoning industries like aviation. His current focus lies in fostering the advancement of artificial intelligence technologies, including Google’s next large-scale natural language model, “Gemini”, which was recently unveiled.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Brin began engaging in AI-related internal meetings within Google last year, demonstrating an increased frequency and level of involvement. Brin’s re-engagement in Google’s product development suggests a potential return to the company’s initial tech-driven model of progress. Moreover, it indicates Google’s intention to allocate more resources in the competitive realm of artificial intelligence.

During this year’s Google I/O 2023, Google emphasized a heightened focus on the evolution of artificial intelligence technology. They also previewed the benefits of the forthcoming large-scale natural language model, “Gemini”, which will accommodate the efficiency of large-scale model training and address more intricate multitasking computational requirements.

Evidently, Google faces mounting pressure from entities like OpenAI, Microsoft, Meta, Amazon, and a host of AI startups. Hence, it becomes necessary for the tech giant to invest more resources in AI technology development to augment its competitive edge in the forthcoming market scenario.
