Baldur’s Gate III will land on the Xbox platform this year

Developed by Larian Studios, “Baldur’s Gate III” graced the PC platform (Steam/GOG) on August 3rd, incorporating support for DLSS 2 and DLAA. Post-launch, “Baldur’s Gate III” has garnered resounding success, its voluminous content, an unparalleled degree of freedom, and commendable optimization positioning it as a strong contender for the Game of the Year accolade.

Regrettably, an Xbox Series X/S version of “Baldur’s Gate III” has yet to see the light of day. The initial plan was for a simultaneous release, but challenges arose in achieving split-screen cooperative play on the relatively underpowered Xbox Series S, preventing it from meeting the performance benchmark set by Xbox Series X. However, Swen Vincke, CEO of Larian Studios and Creative Director of “Baldur’s Gate III”, has heralded some uplifting news, asserting that the game will make its anticipated debut on the Xbox Series X/S within the year.

Vincke extended gratitude towards Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox business at Microsoft, for a significant concession: the omission of split-screen cooperative mode on the Xbox Series S. This decision circumvented the final technical hurdle for “Baldur’s Gate III”, facilitating a harmonious resolution allowing its smooth transition to the Xbox platform. Indeed, in an interview at the Cologne International Gaming Expo, Phil Spencer lavished high praise upon “Baldur’s Gate III”.

“Baldur’s Gate III” is an opulent game, adorned with over 174 hours of cutscenes, boasting more than 17,000 distinct endings, and promising a gameplay experience exceeding 200 hours. This magnum opus was crafted by a dedicated team of 450 individuals. According to aggregated data, “Baldur’s Gate III” has, to date, amassed sales exceeding 5.2 million copies on the Steam platform alone. Both players and prominent gaming media outlets have lauded “Baldur’s Gate III” with stellar ratings.
