Apple reportedly cancels 27-inch mini-LED + 120Hz ProMotion monitor

According to a recent report by display industry supply chain analyst Ross Young, Apple has canceled the much-anticipated 27-inch version of its new monitor, which was initially planned to feature mini-LED technology and a 120Hz ProMotion variable refresh rate.

Previous reports suggested that Apple encountered difficulties during the development stage, causing delays in the monitor’s progress. However, the analyst’s latest report did not mention these issues, merely stating that Apple has decided to cancel the new display.

Apple Studio Display

Currently, Apple offers users the Pro Display XDR and Studio Display, both of which were previously considered high-performance, premium products. In recent years, mini-LED and variable refresh rates have become popular trends, with many users eagerly awaiting Apple’s timely product updates to provide a smoother viewing experience and improved color accuracy.

Yet, it seems those expectations will have to be postponed, as the cancellation does not necessarily imply that similar products will not be introduced in the future – it simply means users will have to wait longer.

For creators, a 120Hz refresh rate is virtually indispensable. It is likely that Apple will not miss this wave of interest, but given the global economic slowdown impacting the company, no one knows whether these issues have prompted Apple to temporarily cancel the new display.
