AMD Zen 5 architecture HEDT code name Shimada Peak
AMD released the Ryzen Threadripper 5000 series processors based on the Zen 3 architecture in March last year, leaving the competition far behind. However, with Intel recently bringing the Xeon WX-2400/3400 series processors, AMD felt some pressure. It is rumored that AMD will launch the next-generation Ryzen Threadripper 7000 series processors codenamed “Storm Peak” and the corresponding TR5 platform in the second half of 2023, introducing PCIe 5.0 and DDR5 memory.
Although the Ryzen Threadripper 7000 series has not arrived yet, AMD seems to be planning more long-term HEDT platform products. According to DigiTimes, AMD’s next-generation HEDT codenamed “Shimada Peak” is based on the Zen 5 architecture and belongs to the Ryzen Threadripper 8000 series, which is expected to be released in 2025.
In general, AMD releases EPYC server processors first and then launches Ryzen Threadripper processors. This generation of Zen 4 architecture products is no exception. The next-generation Zen 5 architecture “Shimada Peak” is likely to use the same socket as “Storm Peak” and last for two generations of products. As for the core configuration specifications of the Ryzen Threadripper 8000 series, it will depend on the Zen 5 architecture EPYC server processor codenamed “Turin”.
