2020 Vulnerability and Threat Trends Report: The number of CVEs will hit a new high
According to the Skybox Security report on vulnerabilities and threats in 2020, the number of vulnerabilities in 2020 is likely to break a new record, more than 20,000, of which the number of mobile vulnerabilities will increase significantly in 2020.
The report points out that the proliferation of vulnerabilities indicates that companies have difficulty managing cyber risks when working remotely on a large scale.
In the first half of 2020, the industry submitted a total of 9,000 vulnerabilities, and the report predicts that the total number of vulnerabilities in 2020 is expected to double. 17,304 new CVEs were added in 2019. If there is no risk-based automatic patch management system, it will be difficult for enterprises to alleviate so many problems and they will be vulnerable to attacks.
Part of the reason for the rapid growth of vulnerabilities is the explosion of Android operating system vulnerabilities. According to Skybox, Android vulnerabilities have increased by 50% year-on-year.
Key findings of the report include:
- 2020 vulnerability reports will likely hit 20,000 – a new record
- New ransomware and trojan samples have soared during the pandemic
- OT security advisories have increased, underscoring the need for greater protection at a time of increased nation-state and criminal threats
- Mobile and browser-based vulnerabilities have grown in volume, adding new complexities for security teams as they deal with overlapping personal and corporate networks
