20 local Texas agencies are attacked by ransomware
Ransomware may have only played a small role in the field of cybercrime five years ago, but now it is one of the most expensive problems plaguing IT systems. Texas has become the latest state to be attacked by ransomware, and 20 local government agencies in the state have been affected.
Previously, the networks of state agencies such as Florida and Maryland had suffered ransomware attacks and caused tens of millions of dollars in losses. This week, Texas became the victim of the ransomware attack. According to the Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR), more than 20 local government agencies were affected by coordinated ransomware attacks. DIR said that the Network Response and Security Operations Center team at the Texas Military Department and the Texas A&M University System is deploying resources for the most affected jurisdictions.
