ZTE showcased a Nubia Pad 3D tablet at MWC 2023
In recent years, tablets have once again become a focal point for various mobile device manufacturers. In addition to improving tablet performance and introducing productivity-enhancing system updates, some manufacturers are also taking a different approach, such as ZTE. At MWC 2023, they showcased the Nubia Pad 3D, a tablet with naked-eye 3D functionality.
According to ZTE, the naked-eye 3D function of this tablet relies on Diffractive Lightfield Backlighting (DLB) technology. This technology comes from Leia Inc., and basically involves inserting a DLB layer into the existing display panel, and using head tracking via the front-facing camera to achieve excellent naked-eye 3D effects. As a result, the Nubia Pad 3D tablet features two 8-megapixel front-facing cameras. It also has two 16-megapixel rear cameras, which can both capture 3D photos and videos. ZTE stated that they will also work with Leia to provide ample 3D content resources to ensure a great user experience.
Of course, even without naked-eye 3D functionality, this tablet is still competitive in terms of hardware. It features a 12.4-inch 2560×1600@120Hz IPS screen and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC, with 128/256GB of storage space available. The Nubia Pad 3D has a battery capacity of 9700mAh and supports 33W fast charging. It runs the latest Android 13 operating system.
Currently, the tablet will be available for pre-sale on March 23 and officially released on April 11. The concept of naked-eye 3D has been around for a while and has been featured on devices such as the HTC G17 and the Nintendo 3DS, which is perhaps the most famous naked-eye 3D device. It remains to be seen what kind of experience ZTE’s new tablet will bring.
