Xbox CFO: Supply chain issues expected to persist in 2022
Since the launch of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, due to the COVID-19 epidemic and shortages in the semiconductor industry, as a result, the supply of these game consoles has always been affected. It’s just that the degree of impact will vary with the change in the cycle. In the early days, gamers had to increase the price significantly to buy it.
According to GamesIndustry, on a recent investor conference call hosted by financial services firm Baird, Xbox CFO Tim Stuart said: “that the supply chain environment could remain rocky through 2022 and the holiday season.” This makes it difficult for game console supply to meet all demand, and supply may become unstable during some holidays. In addition, manufacturers have to deal with rising prices for parts and logistics, which also affects profit margins.
Although Microsoft and Sony have been working hard to improve the supply situation, there seems to be no way to really solve this problem, after all, this is a problem that all industries around the world are facing. Earlier this month, Veronica Rogers, PlayStation’s vice president of worldwide sales and business operations, said it planned to ramp up console production this year, but that won’t be easy to achieve amid current supply chain issues.
