Windows 10 Insider Preview 17758.1 Releases
Microsoft is currently releasing the Windows 10 RedStone 5 Build 17758 for Fast-Ring users participating in the beta program.
The biggest highlight of this version is that Microsoft is improving its storage-aware capabilities, and now its storage sense is so rich that it can be removed from the ribbed label.
Introduction to storage sense:
The storage-aware feature is a feature that Microsoft provided in previous versions of Windows 10, but it’s relatively cumbersome, so there aren’t many users.
This function mainly integrates the recycle bin, redundant logs, and miscellaneous file cleaning, but in fact, it is primarily to periodically clean up the recycle bin to help users recover excess space.
OneDrive expires automatically:
If users use Microsoft’s OneDrive to store files, they will take up more system disks. Of course, Microsoft Cloud Storage now supports on-demand downloads.
This new version of the storage sense feature supports setting expired automatic recycling. For example, if a file is not used for 30 days, it will be deleted directly from the local.
Of course, it is only deleted from the local, so it will not delete files from the cloud. When users need to use the file again, they need to right-click to select offline.
Integrated disk cleanup tool:
The cleanup tool in the right-click property of the disk is now integrated into storage sense, although users can continue to use the cleanup tool in the disk properties.
Storage sense runs automatically at set timing or when there is not enough storage space. The files that storage sense support cleans up now include the following types:
Temporary installation files, expired index content, system cache files, IE/EDGE browser cache files, installed device driver remnants;
Residual program files downloaded by the system, system log files that have expired, system error MINIDUMP files, temporary files generated by the system, and so on.
Download directory and mandatory cleanup features:
It is worth noting that the download directory is not cleaned by default. If you need it, you can check the cleanup download directory to delete the downloaded file.
For the sake of insurance, even if the storage sense function detects some only file remnants, only the content will be displayed, and the user will need to click to clean it manually.
Also, the File Explorer thumbnail will be cleaned by default, and the thumbnail needs to be rebuilt so that the next time you open the image folder, it will appear for a short time.
Then mention the disk cleaning tool:
Microsoft has said that the disk right-clicks cleanup tool has been integrated into storage sense, but the disk cleanup tool is still reserved for compatibility reasons.
In the future, Microsoft may remove the disk cleanup tool to let users use storage sense, but don’t worry about storage sense including disk cleanup all features.
Finally, the Windows.old folder:
This folder is a backup after the Windows system is upgraded. If it is deleted, the user cannot return to the previous version through the system’s built-in rollback function.
By default, Windows 10 will only keep the file for ten days, and it will be deleted automatically if the user does not do any operating system for more than ten days.
However, if the storage infection is turned on, such as automatic cleaning every day, Windows.old will be cleaned up immediately, so it is best not to turn it on.
