Windows 10 21H2 Support Ends in June: Time to Upgrade
Microsoft has announced the cessation of support for the Enterprise and Education editions of Windows 10 21H2 on June 10, 2024. Beyond this date, operating systems running these versions will no longer receive technical support, security updates, or bug fixes from Microsoft. By contrast, support for the Home and Pro editions of Windows 10 21H2 had already concluded on June 13, 2023.
Users seeking assistance from Microsoft’s support department after the expiration date will be directed to upgrade to Windows 11 to continue receiving support. Alternatively, users may opt to update to the latest version of Windows 10, such as Windows 10 22H2, which will be supported until October 14, 2025. The specific editions of Windows 10 21H2 affected by this update include:
- Windows 10 Enterprise, version 21H2
- Windows 10 Enterprise multi-session, version 21H2
- Windows 10 Education, version 21H2
- Windows 10 IoT Enterprise, version 21H2
For some businesses and educational institutions, upgrading to Windows 11 may present challenges due to certain hardware requirements. Although the requirements for Windows 11 Enterprise and Education editions are somewhat more lenient, they still mandate UEFI BIOS, Secure Boot, a DirectX 12 compatible graphics card, and a TPM 2.0 security chip. Opting to update to Windows 10 22H2 is relatively simpler, as the requirements remain consistent with those of Windows 10 21H2, albeit extending the end of support by merely a year.
Windows 10, now in its ninth year, will reach a decade of service before concluding its regular support next year. In addition to Windows 10, Microsoft will also end support for Windows 11 versions 21H2 and 22H2 in 2025.
