Website statistics platform Alexa.com announced the closure
In 1996, Alexa.com was officially launched. The website provides SEO analysis suggestions for global websites through the browser toolbar and partner data.
In 1999, Amazon announced the acquisition of the site for $250 million in stocks. Alexa.com has been a must-have tool for all webmasters since its launch 25 years ago.
Of course, if an Internet company needs to obtain SEO analysis advice from the website, it needs to pay to purchase a package, which is also the main revenue method of Alexa.com.
However, I don’t know if the impact of the mobile Internet or the app era is too great. Alexa.com has been declining in traffic in recent years, and revenue is also declining.
Alexa.com issued a notice stating that the platform will be shut down in May 2022. At present, our inspection found that users who have not logged in can no longer check the website’s brief data.
Paying users can continue to use it but no longer support new subscriptions. Existing subscribers will no longer support the use after the closure in May 2022.
Paid users will still be reserved before April 2022, which means that if existing subscribers expire before April, they still have to renew the subscription, otherwise the data cannot be viewed.
The API interface is valid until December 8, 2022, and the service will be terminated. At that time, all other websites or services that call the Alexa.com API will not be able to query data.
Amazon did not specify the reason for shutting down this 25-year-old analysis platform, but from the data point of view, it should still be closed because the revenue did not meet expectations.
