TSMC plans to increase the quotation of 8-inch mature process in 2022Q3

Due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic and the semiconductor supply chain, the global core shortage has been going on for more than a year. In addition, starting from the fourth quarter of 2020, major wafer foundries have raised their quotations for chip manufacturing, and the prices of different process nodes have risen many times, and this trend shows no signs of abating this year.

TSMC 2nm chip

As the world’s largest wafer foundry, TSMC continues to raise the price of chip orders. It was rumored late last year that TSMC will increase the price of wafer production in 2022 by 10% for 7nm or more advanced processes, and by 20% for 16nm or above wafer production. Since the revenue of the N5 and N7 process nodes accounts for more than half of TSMC’s revenue, the N16 and N28 process nodes account for about a quarter of the revenue that has led to a surge in TSMC’s revenue and profits.

According to DigiTimes, TSMC plans to continue to adjust prices in the third quarter of this year and will increase the quotation for mature processes of 8-inch wafers, while the quotations for advanced processes of 12-inch wafers may also increase. However, TSMC is still evaluating the situation. According to industry insiders, if TSMC raises its quotation, other foundries are likely to follow suit.
