The operating profit of Samsung’s foundry business exceed 2 trillion won in 2022
As an important foundry in the world, Samsung’s market share is second only to TSMC. At the same time, in terms of advanced technology, Samsung is one of the few industry competitors that can catch up with TSMC, and the distance is also the closest. Last year, Samsung’s Hwaseong factory in South Korea began to produce 3nm chips, becoming the only foundry company in the world that provides 3nm process foundry services using the next-generation new GAA (Gate-All-Around) architecture transistor technology.
According to Business Korea, some research institutions predict that the revenue of Samsung’s foundry business posted 29.93 trillion won in 2022, the operating profit was 2.6 trillion won to 3.5 trillion, and the operating profit margin is likely to exceed 10%.
Some analysts said that due to the deterioration of the memory market, Samsung’s semiconductor business may suffer losses in 2023. SK Hynix, another major memory manufacturer in South Korea, has already incurred losses in the fourth quarter of 2022. In such a difficult market environment, the performance of Samsung’s foundry business is worthy of recognition.
Industry investment awareness predicts that Samsung’s foundry business revenue in 2023 will be similar to that in 2022, and operating profit may further increase. Market demand for semiconductors will recover in the second half of this year, mainly in high-performance computing (HPC), data centers, and automotive chips.
