The GCD size of Navi 31 is about 350mm²

AMD will launch Radeon RX 7000 series graphics cards this year, equipped with Navi 3x series GPUs based on RDNA 3 architecture. Among them, the most high-end Navi 31 will be packaged in MCM multi-chip, equipped with one GCD (graphics computing chip) and six MCD (multi-cache I/O chips), and will use two different processes technologies.

Recently, Twitter user @greymon55 revealed that the GCD size of Navi 31 is only about 350mm², which is much smaller than the current Navi 21 (520mm²) based on the RDNA 2 architecture. Of course, since the RDNA 3 architecture is more complex than existing GPUs in some designs, it cannot be completely analogized.
It is speculated that the size of each MCD is about 40mm², so the overall size of Navi 31 should be around 590mm², which is similar to the rumored AD102 (about 600mm²) based on the Ada Lovelace architecture. 3DCenter said that if Navi 21 minus the Infinity Cache and memory controller modules, the size is about 375mm², which is still larger than the GCD of Navi 31.

Some analysts pointed out that AMD has removed some unnecessary functional modules on the new architecture, and adopted a new process node, which has reduced the GCD size of Navi 31. It is rumored that the number of stream processors of Navi 31 is 12,288, equipped with 24GB of GDDR6 video memory, the bit width is 384 bits, the rate is 18 Gbps, and the Infinity Cache is 192MB.

It was previously reported that AMD is also developing a Navi 3x GPU with two GCDs, corresponding to 16,384 stream processors, and is scheduled to launch in 2023. From the paper parameters, the size of the RDNA 3 architecture GPU with dual GCD configuration is double that of Navi 32 (8192 stream processors). Whether this is achieved through a multi-chip package or with two Navi 32 GPUs is unclear.
