TCL removes weather app from the Play Store and is on an investigation

Recently, we reported that TCL developed an Android-based mobile app Weather Forecast — World Weather Accurate Radar that collects user information over the world and subscribes to some paid services without asking for permission. TCL also responded to this question today, an investigation is underway and some third-party SDK access rights are being lifted.

Weather Forecast app collects personal information

TCL did state that it had already updated the app to get rid of any third-party SDK access and that the update “did remove the unauthorized actions implemented by a third-party accessing our application SDK.” The company did not offer any specifics on what those “unauthorized actions” were. TCL claims the data from its mobile apps is stored in the U.S. via AWS, and if any data was sent elsewhere, it was unauthorized.

For Weather Forecast — World Weather Accurate Radar applications that are exposed to an excessive collection of user information, TCL Communications said that the company is very concerned about this matter and is currently investigating.
