SK Hynix announced the launch of the world’s first DDR5 DRAM
As a product of computer hardware, memory is an important part. The demand for it has been increasing over the years. However, memory is not simply the bigger the better. Frequency and specifications are important. For example, DDR4 3200 is faster than DDR2 1333 for the same size of memory.
In 2014, DDR4 memory was officially launched on the market, and it has been in service for more than six years. Today, we finally usher in the news of the arrival of DDR5 memory.
The famous Korean memory manufacturer SK Hynix announced the official launch of the world’s first DDR5 memory. About two years ago, they announced that they were developing the world’s first 16GB DDR5 memory, and today they have successfully achieved their goal.
DDR5 is the next-generation memory specification, which further reduces the operating voltage from 1.2V of DDR4 to 1.1V, which further reduces the power consumption of the memory by 20%.
At the same time, the transmission rate of the new generation of memory has also been greatly improved, the rate is between 4800Mbps~5600Mbps, which is 1.8 times higher than that of DDR4 memory, and the new ECC error correction code has increased the operating stability of the application by more than 20 times.
SK Hynix said it will work with other partners to jointly develop the DDR5 memory ecosystem. At present, some professional hardware companies have officially released the product pages of DDR5 memory products, but they cannot be purchased at present.
However, the first batch of DDR5 memory that will be launched is mainly for users in professional fields such as big data, artificial intelligence, and machine learning. It will take a long time for ordinary users to use it, and it will not be available until the next generation of Intel and AMD processors support DDR5 memory.
