Samsung is planning to develop a 600 megapixel camera
In the field of smartphone image sensors, Samsung is currently maintaining a leading edge. Previously, the company has mass-produced 108MP sensors and debuted on Xiaomi 10. Later, Samsung’s own Galaxy S20 Ultra also introduced this 108MP image sensor. At the same time, there has been news that Samsung is still developing a 150MP image sensor. The 150MP image sensor is expected to be available in the fourth quarter of this year.
However, the 150MP sensor is not Samsung’s ultimate goal. On the contrary, Samsung’s goal may be to exceed the human eyeball pixel limit of 576MP. Samsung is planning to develop a 600MP image sensor to maintain its leading edge.
The head of Samsung’s sensor business said the company will continue to work on making higher-pixel image sensors for smartphones.
Although it is not clear whether a sensor of this level of a pixel is really necessary or can actually achieve its performance, 600MP and beyond the pixel limit of the human eye are certainly huge gimmicks, no matter which smartphone uses this sensor, certainly it will quickly attract attention. Of course, it is easier for manufacturers to promote these phones.
Like the 108MP sensor, the 600MP sensor may still be used first in non-Samsung phones. At that time, which manufacturer wants to launch the world’s first 600MP image sensor will have to be reluctant to spend money. But is this really necessary?
