Samsung announces Linux on DeX: enjoy a Linux environment any time any where
Yesterday, Samsung announced a new project – Linux on DeX. The official website describes it as Linux on DeX allows you to enjoy the Linux environment anytime, anywhere.
The Samsung mobile phone can launch the Linux container and then connect to the display, which will become the Ubuntu desktop environment, thus achieving the PC development experience on the mobile phone. However, only Note9 and Tab S4 are currently supported.
However, Linux on DeX currently only supports a custom Ubuntu image (the Ubuntu 16.04 LTS version provided by Canonical), and the image is just run on the specified Samsung device (Note9 and Tab S4). Besides, the hardware requirements of the device are relatively high, at least 8GB of storage space and 4GB of RAM, if you need to install other software packages or applications, you need additional storage space.
Linux on DeX is a project for developers and professional users, so what can we do with it?
- Download source code from the Git repository and maintain the code base
- Manage and monitor servers using the server CLI
- Create a C/C++/Java project with your favourite IDE
