Sales of AMD platform motherboards increased significantly in June
Since the unveiling of Intel’s Alder Lake, there has been a significant reversion of the disadvantage that has plagued desktop platforms for the past few years. The succeeding Raptor Lake has further applied pressure, causing AMD, which is currently in the transition phase between Zen 3 and Zen 4 architectures, to feel significantly strained. On the one hand, the elevated cost of AM5 platform motherboards has greatly undermined consumer purchasing desire. On the other hand, the prolonged absence of mid to low-end CPU product lines in the AM4 platform has adversely affected sales.
Over the past year, AMD has introduced a wider range of mainstream and entry-level products to both the AM4 and AM5 platforms, somewhat compensating for previous shortcomings. Combined with the launch of high-end market models featuring 3D Vertical Cache (3D V-Cache) technology and pricing promotions, AMD has begun to regain its footing. Boardchannels reports that AMD platform motherboard shipments significantly increased in June, with noticeable online and offline growth.
Online, despite the seemingly sparse shipments and sales of B550 and higher models, the online promotional advantages of June, along with the significant increase in motherboard and CPU kit shipments, resulted in approximately 40% growth. Offline, while the sales performance of B550 and higher models were less than stellar, the shipment volumes of lower-end models like B450, A620, and A320 markedly improved. With a more adequate market supply of low-end CPUs in recent times, along with reasonable pricing, brands with stock advantages and distributors saw a substantial increase in their sales share in June.
Last month, reports suggested that AMD began adjusting CPU supplies in the second quarter of this year. Simultaneously, they’ve made some Ryzen 7000 series CPUs more cost-effective and have increased the supply of lower-end models. By implementing these comprehensive measures, AMD’s positioning in the high, medium, and low sub-markets has been progressively adjusted and completed at this stage.
This month, the Ryzen 5 7500F targeting the AM5 platform will make its debut. Following this, the AM4 platform may also see the emergence of the Ryzen 7 5700 and Ryzen 3 5100, all of which are non-APU, cost-effective mid to low-end products. It appears AMD intends to maintain its recent sales momentum.
