Qualcomm officially announced the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor at the “Snapdragon Night” online live event held in Beijing earlier, and Xiaomi confirmed that it will be the first to use this processor in the next Mi 12 Ultra. In this announcement, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor was also announced at the same time, and OPPO also confirmed that it will be the first to adopt this processor.
As previously rumored, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor will increase the operating clock to 3.2GHz. Compared with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, both the CPU and GPU computing performance are improved by 10%, while the power consumption is reduced by 30%, and the overall power consumption is reduced by 15%.
In terms of overall performance, Qualcomm said that the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor can extend the gameplay time by an additional hour, the video playback time will be increased by 80 minutes, and the use time of the online community platform can also be increased by 50 minutes, and the voice call time can be increased by more than 5.5 hours.
In the artificial intelligence application part, the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor adopts the seventh-generation Snapdragon AIE artificial intelligence engine, and the overall computing performance is improved by 20%. Other parts are more advertised in Snapdragon Sound, Snapdragon Connect, Snapdragon Sight, Snapdragon Elite Gaming, and Snapdragon Secure also bring a more immersive experience.
On the other hand, Qualcomm also simultaneously launched the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor, which also imported the seventh-generation Snapdragon AIE artificial intelligence engine, and adopts the same three sets of Spectra 14-bit image processing chip design as the 8 series processors, which can correspond to 200 million pixel processing power, supports 4K HDR shooting one by one, and HDR10+ video shooting also supports vault-level security protection, and is also compatible with Android Ready SE security design.
In the connection part, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor is also designed with the
FastConnect 6900 connection system, using the Snapdragon X62 5G networking chip.
At this conference, Xiaomi also revealed that it will be the first to use the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor announced this time in its products, and it is expected to be applied to the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 12 Ultra. OPPO also confirmed that it will use the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor in the upcoming Reno 8 series on May 23.
The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor announced this time was changed to TSMC’s 4nm FinFET process, while the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor remained on Samsung’s 4nm EUV process.
