Qualcomm launched the Snapdragon 860 processor
Qualcomm recently announced the launch of a new processor, Qualcomm Snapdragon 860. Snapdragon 860 can also be regarded as a flagship processor, but it is not the latest model.
This processor is similar to the Snapdragon 855 processor in terms of performance and production technology, but slightly higher than the Snapdragon 855 in terms of main frequency, which can be regarded as an enhanced version. Except for the slight increase in the main frequency, there are basically no major highlights in other aspects.
At present, Qualcomm’s processors based on the 7-nanometer node include Snapdragon 855, Snapdragon 865, and Snapdragon 870. These processors can be regarded as intermediate products.
Qualcomm has already launched the Snapdragon 870 processor at the beginning of the year, and its performance is between Snapdragon 865 and Snapdragon 888, allowing manufacturers to make personalized matching.
The performance of the Snapdragon 860 processor launched this time is between the Snapdragon 855 and the Snapdragon 865, allowing Android manufacturers to launch new products at lower prices.
For Qualcomm, launching such lower-performance processors is nothing more than trying to seize the mid-range market, so how to compress the total cost is important for Qualcomm.
It is also true that in terms of 5G, the Snapdragon 860 harnesses multi-gigabit 4G and powerful 5G connectivity, unleashing high-speed mobile experiences.
However, there is news on the market that there are major difficulties in the supply of Qualcomm chips. Some manufacturers such as Xiaomi and OPPO have already transferred orders to MediaTek.
So even if Qualcomm launches cheaper new chips, whether it can ensure stable supply may be a problem, which is even more troublesome for Android manufacturers.
