Due to limited performance, Qualcomm’s partners did not purchase too much of the third-generation Snapdragon 8cx, but with the arrival of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx Gen4, the situation may change. It is rumored that Qualcomm’s customers intend to release small 10-inch mobile devices, similar to Apple’s iPad-type products, which are expected to be launched in 2024.
According to
Winfuture, Qualcomm has been developing and testing the Snapdragon 8cx Gen4 since August 2022, and its test platform is a 10-inch device. Qualcomm is likely to use the 4th generation Snapdragon 8cx for small-sized laptops, 2-in-1 devices, or tablets.
This type of device can run Windows or Android systems, and judging from the currently leaked specifications of the 4th generation Snapdragon 8cx, it should be able to provide sufficient performance. Qualcomm’s SoC should have no problem running Android, but it has been poorly integrated with Windows, which is the heartache of Microsoft and Qualcomm, from lack of application support to poor performance, and the price of the corresponding equipment is not close to the people, all kinds of negative information make consumers stay away from such equipment.
In contrast, Apple’s use of chips is much more in place, such as putting M1 and M2 chips into the iPad product line, which has promoted sales and gained a greater share of the time difference. It is understood that when running on smaller devices, the clock of the 4th generation Snapdragon 8cx may be reduced to reduce heat generation and bring longer battery life.
According to previous reports, the CPU part of the
4th generation Snapdragon 8cx has 12 cores, including 8 performance cores with a boost clock of 3.4GHz, and 4 custom-designed energy efficiency cores with a boost clock of 2.5GHz. The GPU borrows from the Adreno 740, supports DirectX 12, OpenCL/DirectML, and Vulkan 1.3, and comes with the AV1 codec. In addition, it also supports LPDDR5X-4200 memory with a maximum capacity of 64GB. It also supports NVMe, UFS 4.0, Wi-Fi 7, and Snapdragon X65 5G modem. It can even use Thunderbolt 4 to connect to an external discrete graphics card.
