Minisforum warms up for the new 6L ITX mini PC
Connoisseurs of mini PC technology would be intimately familiar with the brand known as “Minisforum”. At this year’s Computex 2023, Minisforum exhibited not only its mini PCs but also new Mini-ITX motherboards tailored for the next generation of mini PCs.
Minisforum has officially announced these new Mini-ITX motherboards and corresponding mini PCs, revealing that the fresh platforms are constructed upon the 13th generation Intel Raptor Lake HX55 platform and the AMD Dragon Rage HX55 platform respectively, offering users a wider array of choices. Subsequently, both motherboard and complete system configurations will be available for purchase, implying that consumers may opt to acquire the motherboard individually or a system that incorporates it.
Among the prototypes displayed previously, the Ryzen 9 7945HX and the Core i9-13900HX were featured. The former boasts up to 16 cores and 32 threads based on the Zen 4 architecture, whereas the latter offers up to 24 cores and 32 threads (8P+16E), each presenting high-end options. Apart from the CPUs, the two motherboard designs bear striking resemblances, each furnished with two SO-DIMM slots, a PCIe 4.0 x16 slot, and dual M.2 slots, complemented by an 8-pin power connector.
Minisforum asserts that the new mini PC’s volume is a mere 6L, supports SFX power supplies, and comes with a full PCIe 5.0 x16 slot, enabling undiminished connections to independent graphics cards. Users can opt for high-performance desktop-independent graphics cards, relishing smoother, more immersive gaming and productivity experiences. However, the exact length of the independent graphics card that this mini PC can support remains unclear.
Based on the mini PC renderings released by the official site, the device appears to be replete with four USB Type-A ports, a USB Type-C port, HDMI and DP ports, an Ethernet port, a wireless network card antenna port, and an audio port revealing a comprehensive arrangement of interface options. The front I/O is also equipped with USB Type-A and Type-C ports.
