Microsoft suddenly cancels family calendar features in Outlook desktop apps

The Microsoft Mail application, Outlook comes with contacts and calendar functions so that users can record mail arrangements to the calendar, of course, users can also take the initiative to create a new calendar.

All calendar arrangements could originally invite family members to visit and share calendars with family members, but in the recent update, Microsoft suddenly removed the invitation and sharing features.

Microsoft officially hasn’t given any instructions on this kind of confusing operation, but it is recommended that users who use the above-mentioned functions should migrate to other calendar software temporarily.

Microsoft recently removed the calendar invitation and sharing functions of the Outlook desktop version (Win32), UWP version, and third-party API version and does not support the use.

After the recent update, the invitation and sharing features of these versions have been removed. At present, only the online version of Outlook.com seems to support this feature.

The family calendar sharing function is mainly that family members can add content to the calendar, and then all family members can see the calendar arrangement for note purposes.

After removal, it is recommended that users use other software for content sharing. For example, the Microsoft To-Do application currently supports to-do list sharing.

As for why Microsoft will delete the feature, it is not yet clear. “Unfortunately this change also removed some functionality that allowed the calendar to be viewed as a shared calendar in other applications like the Windows 10 Mail app and the Outlook desktop app as well as some third-party apps. None of the events or information was lost in the move to the new calendar,” Microsoft said.
