Microsoft Store will support PWAs for Chromium Edge
Earlier, the Unreal Engine developer Epic had quarreled with Apple and Google due to payment issues, and then Microsoft stepped up to express support for the company’s fight against industry monopoly.
At the same time, Microsoft’s own application store also issued an announcement stating that it will not force developers to use Microsoft in-app purchase channels, nor will it force developers to list their applications.
Microsoft hoped to show that its own app store had better policies for developers. However, a large number of users ridiculed the fact that the Microsoft store has no high-quality apps.
Of course, the ridicule of users cannot be said to be wrong. The number of applications in Microsoft Store is very small and the quality of a large number of applications is extremely low. Most developers directly ignore the Microsoft Store.
According to the new developer policy released by Microsoft, the company will allow developers to put PWA progressive web applications on the Microsoft Store for users to download and use.
The so-called progressive web application of PWA refers to browser-based applications. Of course, some of them need to be connected to the Internet and some can be used in an offline environment.
This kind of progressive web application has its own advantages, but usually, users can install it directly through the browser, and there is no need to install it through the store.
It is worth noting that these progressive web applications also need to be developed based on Microsoft Edge-based Chromium browser.
