Microsoft will release the final security update for the product tonight, and no security updates will be released thereafter, and even security vulnerabilities will not be fixed.
Based on security considerations, it is recommended that users upgrade to a new version that is still supported by security as soon as possible, especially in enterprises and commercial environments to prevent potential threats.
Microsoft Office 2016, which was released on September 22, 2015, has now been five years old. Usually, Microsoft will provide mainstream support for this series of software for five years.
After the five-year mainstream support ends, Microsoft will still provide extended support for five years. The so-called extended support means that only security updates are provided and no feature updates are provided.
The end of mainstream support for Microsoft Office 2016 is October 13, 2020, and the end of extended security support is October 14, 2025.
The implementation of this life cycle policy includes Home and Business, Home and Student, Personal Professional, Professional Plus, and Standard.
These versions can still be used for five years without worrying about security issues. Of course, the premise is that users must stay online and regularly install security updates released by Microsoft.
