Microsoft provides temporary solutions for Windows 10 Reset this PC feature
Generally, users can use the reset function when the system has serious problems. The reset function is similar to restoring factory settings to restore the system to its initial state.
Of course, Microsoft’s reset function also provides the function of retaining personal files, in which case personal files will not be deleted but installed software will be cleared.
However, in Windows 10 v2004, some users may have found that the reset function cannot be used. Microsoft has now released a support article to confirm this problem.
According to a support article published by Microsoft, the reset function will malfunction on some hardware devices, and the system cannot be reset by using the reset function, resulting in no changes.
What the user sees maybe that the reset function automatically enters the system after entering the restart process, and after logging into the system, it will prompt that some problems have been encountered and the reset fails.
Microsoft did not say what problem caused the reset function to be abnormal, but according to our guess, which cumulative update is probably the new problem after installation.
Microsoft currently provides a temporary solution to repair the core modules of the system online through the DISM command. If it encounters damage, the system will repair the damaged part in advance.
As a workaround for this issue, do this:
- Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, type Command Prompt or cmd in the Search box, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
- Type the following command, and then press Enter:
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
- Reboot your system, and attempt Reset this PC again.
