Microsoft plans to support RCS messaging in Windows 10 Your Phone app

Rich Media Communication (RCS) is a communication solution developed by the GSM Association to replace traditional short messages. Although RCS has been launched for many years, the usage is very low.

This is mainly because operators are unwilling to be applied by new technologies. After all, the number of SMS users has declined for operators, but there is still a lot of revenue.

Technology companies are currently working to advance the coverage of RCS communications. For example, Google is working with Android manufacturers to pre-install RCS-related communications software.

If Google achieves its goal, all Android users can communicate with each other based on the network, and can directly send text messages or pictures and videos without relying on text messages.

Microsoft has been defeated in the smartphone market so it can’t help RCS, but Microsoft will use Microsoft’s advantages in the PC platform to improve the RCS peripheral functions.

For example, the “Your Phone” application pre-installed in Windows 10 system will soon support RCS communication, but the only supported devices at this stage are the Samsung S20 series. For example, after receiving the RCS message, the user can also view it on the computer, and also can directly reply to the RCS message on the computer. There is no need to rely on SMS.

As for why only the S20 series is currently supported, it is likely that the S20 is the only device that fully supports RCS now. Most Android devices do not support this feature.

Of course, if optimistic is expected, Microsoft should support more models to use this function in the future, provided that the device itself needs to support RCS messages to be supported.
