Report show that Microsoft Office has become a major attack vector of cyber attack

A new report points out that MS Office, with one of the most popular office tools on the market, has a large user base and has become an important target for hackers. At the 2019 annual meeting, Kaspersky Lab said that 70% of the attacks it captured were for “Microsoft Office” products, and 14% were browser-oriented attacks. Two of the major vulnerabilities pointed out by Kaspersky are- CVE-2017-11882, CVE-2018-0802.

According to three researchers, Alexander Liskin, Boris Larin, and Vlad Stolyarov, “the threat has increased in the past two years and have highly pressured users to keep their software up-to-date and to avoid downloading and opening files from untrusted sources to reduce the risk of virus and malware infections.”

Of course, to protect the security of your software, the solution is fairly simple – always make sure that the software you are using is the latest version, and don’t open unfamiliar or seemingly suspicious files.

Finally, although we want Microsoft to be able to provide a permanent security solution, the reality is that there are no hardware and software in the world that can provide 100% security. For this reason, even those files from trusted sources, be sure to develop a habit of taking a few minutes to perform a security scan before downloading and opening.
