Microsoft Edge will have built-in Cloudflare-powered VPN functionality
At present, it is not uncommon to have a built-in VPN function directly in the browser. Mozilla Firefox has previously launched a VPN subscription service to help users avoid IP address, location, and other privacy leakages throughout the VPN connection.
Now Microsoft is also following up. According to windowslatest, Microsoft will build a new feature called Secure Network for Microsoft Edge, which is a VPN service, powered by CloudFlare. Microsoft and CloudFlare only collect diagnostic and support data, and all data generated by users using the VPN will be automatically deleted within 25 hours.
Microsoft says the advantage of using a VPN is that all data is encrypted through the tunnel, no data is leaked whether the user is accessing an HTTP or HTTPS website, and hackers are difficult to track, even when using public WiFi. At the same time, a VPN can avoid leakage of the user’s IP address and location. Because the IP addresses that are ultimately transmitted to the website are all VPN nodes, the website cannot be tracked and analyzed. Similarly, the advertisement tracking script cannot be directly analyzed.
It is not known when this feature will be launched, but Microsoft seems to have started testing it. You can log in to your Microsoft account to get 1GB/month of free traffic. If the traffic exceeds, you will need to pay, but it is not yet known what the subscription price is.
