Microsoft confirms it is no longer developing games for the Xbox One platform
In an interview with Axios, Matt Booty, the head of Microsoft’s Xbox Game Studios, confirmed that they have ceased the development of game titles for the Xbox One platform.
From recent announcements, it is evident that Microsoft’s first-party games, along with those under Bethesda’s portfolio, no longer offer versions for the Xbox One platform. They are now primarily available for the Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC.
However, third-party game developers, including Ubisoft, continue to cater to the Xbox One platform. Nevertheless, Microsoft expresses a keen interest in shifting its developmental focus to newer platforms, aiming to produce games that are more enticing to players.
Thus, if Xbox One users still wish to partake in new games like “Starfield” and “Forza Horizon,” they will now need to subscribe to the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate service. This will enable them to bypass hardware limitations through cloud streaming.
Contrary to Microsoft’s approach, Sony continues to offer first-party games simultaneously on the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 platforms. However, it is anticipated that the focus will gradually shift primarily toward the PlayStation 5 platform in the near future.
