Meta may launch subscription service for Quest headset
The Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus upgraded memberships have been available for some time. Judging from the feedback from players and Microsoft’s financial report, the subscription model seems to be an effective sales method in the gaming industry. According to MIXED‘s report, Meta also seems to be planning to offer the same service for their Quest series VR headsets.
This subscription service was discovered by a Twitter user named Shiny Quagsire, who posted a screenshot with the title “Quest Pass”. The content of the screenshot suggests that users can get two playable games each month through the Apollo project, and as long as they redeem the game before the end of the month, they can continue to play the game while maintaining the subscription.
However, based on this description, it seems that the Quest Pass is more similar to Xbox Live Gold membership and PlayStation Plus basic membership, which also offer two free games each month, and players can continue to play these games as long as they maintain their payment.
From the screenshot, we can also see that the internal code name of this project is Apollo, which has never appeared before. Shiny Quagsire also stated that by opening the hyperlink “oculus://view/platform_subscription” on a mobile phone with the Meta Quest application installed, others can also open this interface like him.
Of course, we still don’t know how this subscription service is progressing, or whether it will be implemented. However, being able to receive games every month may be a good selling point for existing Quest headsets and future releases.
