Lenovo will add Linux certification to ThinkPad and ThinkStation Workstation computers

Today, Lenovo announced that it will add a Linux certification to the computer products of the ThinkPad and ThinkStation product lines. This may make some people feel weird because Linux can be installed on ThinkPad and ThinkStation products.

In fact, Lenovo’s move is meaningful, because although users can install Linux on their computers before, they may encounter some software and hardware compatibility issues, and Linux-certified ThinkPad or ThinkStation do not need to worry about this problem.

Even if you are using ThinkPad and ThinkStation computers with Linux systems, you can still get security patches, driver updates, firmware updates, and BIOS updates from Lenovo, and Lenovo said it will upload the hardware drivers to the Linux kernel, so you can directly receive driver update under Linux system.

Lenovo is currently selling ThinkPad and ThinkStation computers equipped with enterprise versions of Ubuntu and Red Hat. Compared to consumer versions, the enterprise version of the system is more stable, but the update speed is also slower.

Lenovo promised to provide comprehensive service support for ThinkPad and ThinkStation computers equipped with Linux systems, including the establishment of a Linux system forum dedicated to user feedback.
