Kingsoft responded to Trump’s WPS Office ban
We mentioned that US President Trump issued a new administrative ban, which requires the US Department of Commerce to block a number of applications from Chinese developers.
The blocked applications also include Kingsoft’s WPS Office software, as well as Alipay, Tencent QQ, WeChat Pay, and CamScanner.
Theoretically, the ban can only remove these apps from the Apple and Google stores. At the same time, American companies are not allowed to do business with these app developers. However, in terms of a specific implementation, we still need to wait for the next president, Joe Biden, to take office.
Recently, Kingsoft issued a response to the executive order signed by Trump. Kingsoft stated that the order has no substantial impact on the company’s operations in the short term.
The company said that WPS series products currently have more than 100 million users in overseas markets, but they are mainly free users and Kingsoft will put a small amount of advertising content.
The ban signed by Trump alone will not have much impact on Kingsoft’s main business, and at most will have a slight impact on Kingsoft’s small advertising business.
But just as Kingsoft said that it will not have a substantial impact on the company’s introduction in the short term, but in terms of long-term development, Kingsoft will inevitably expand overseas markets.
Therefore, if the ban is really implemented, it will have an adverse impact on Kingsoft’s subsequent development of the US market, so it will eventually have some potential impact.
